Disney and Marvel have extensively planned out the future for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The franchise has grown especially large in recent years, thanks to the addition of Disney Plus, which allows many more television shows set in the franchise to be produced. Of course, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is still largely well-known for its theatrical slate. As such, many fans are anticipating the films that are scheduled to be released this year and next year. It’s just been announced, however, that Disney has rescheduled two of their upcoming MCU films.
The two rescheduled films are none other than Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels. Both films are sequels, with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania following the events of Ant-Man and its first sequel, Ant-Man and the Wasp. The Marvels, on the other hand, will follow the events of Captain Marvel and the upcoming Disney Plus series Ms. Marvel.
The new schedule, as noted via MovieWeb, will see the films released on the following dates:
“The new slate shuffle means Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will now arrive in cinemas on February 17, 2023, while The Marvels will drop back to July 28, 2023.”
It’s unclear why exactly the films had their release dates changed. But it could be any number of reasons, including a need for more time to shoot footage or edit. It could also possibly tie in with some of their other Marvel projects that they have on the way. After all, many of these films and shows are designed to be interconnected. So it’s possible that this will allow all of the films and shows to better lead into one another. As such, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
For now, however, fans will be able to see the rescheduled MCU films Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, 2023 and The Marvels on July 28, 2023.
