After Amber Heard divorced Johnny Depp, over allegations of domestic abuse that he denies, she pledged to donate her $7 million divorce settlement to the ACLU and CHLA charities. Now that the two are undergoing their latest defamation lawsuit, with Johnny Depp suing Amber Heard, some surprising details over this pledge have been revealed. As it turns out, Amber Heard hasn’t even paid half of her promised $3.5 million ACLU donation.
As noted in a pre-recorded deposition, via Insider, ALCU’s general counsel Terence Dougherty testified that Amber Heard hasn’t donated the full amount. It appears that she’s only donated $1.3 million so far. Furthermore, much of this money was donated due to the assistance of both Johnny Depp and Elon Musk.
As they explained:
“Dougherty revealed that the ACLU had received four donations from Heard up to this point: $350,000 directly from her in 2016, a $100,000 check from Depp, $500,000 from a fund linked to Elon Musk, whom Amber briefly dated after his divorce, and finally a final $350,000 payment from another fund.”
This is definitely a strike against Amber Heard’s credibility. Terence Dougherty said that Amber Heard cited “financial difficulties” as her reason for not honoring the pledge.
“We reached out to Ms. Heard starting in 2019 for the next installment of her giving and we learned that she was having financial difficulties,” he said.
They also received an email from Elon Musk, written on behalf of Amber Heard, and stated that she’d donate the entire amount over the next 10 years. Though this knowledge was only revealed recently. Additionally, MovieWeb noted via Insider, the following:
“Heard never even signed the pledge from ACLU staffers prepared for her and asked them not to issue a press release about her contract. Another significant detail that came out of yesterday’s testimonies is that ACLU assisted and even encouraged Heard to write her op-ed, as they proposed she be an ambassador for the group.”
They quoted:
“Ms. Heard spoke with such clarity and expertise on issues of gender-based violence, that [ACLU representatives] decided she would be an appropriate person to ask to become an ACLU ambassador.”
It’ll be interesting to see how this incomplete donation made by Amber Heard impacts the lawsuit and what will come to light going forward.
