When Disney Plus first launched, Disney and Marvel made their plans clear to produce exclusive Marvel shows just for the streaming service. And not only have they kept true to their word, but the Marvel shows available on Disney Plus have all been massive hits. In fact, each series has been the number-one show globally during their respective peaks. But according to new data, Disney Plus won’t be able to rely solely on Marvel content due to a major issue.
As revealed in new data from Parrot Analytics, via Business Insider, the Marvel shows on Disney Plus have all been wildly successful. However, there’s one issue that will keep Disney Plus from using Marvel as one of their main focuses. It turns out that while the shows are popular with existing subscribers – they just aren’t bringing in any new subscribers.
Here’s what they had to say:
“Parrot Analytics said the data suggests that the Marvel shows have been massive hits with Disney+’s existing subscribers (and the Marvel fanbase), helping to retain users, but haven’t gone far in attracting new fans and growing the subscriber base.”
It seems that most Marvel fans already subscribe to Disney Plus. As such, these new Marvel shows aren’t going to entice additional subscribers to join the service. While Disney will presumably continue to make content for their Marvel Cinematic Universe just for Disney Plus, they’ll have to come up with additional content to get additional subscribers. While they already have a massive number of subscribers, Disney is no doubt going to continue growing for as much as they can. With that in mind, it’ll be interesting to see what they could do in the future.
Aside from Star Wars and Marvel, Disney recently acquired all of Fox and their massive library of titles. It’s possible that we’ll continue seeing more IPs and titles expanded on solely for distribution on Disney Plus. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any further news as we have it.
