The Disney Plus series Moon Knight has been surprising and wowing audiences worldwide with every new episode. This has especially been the case with the show’s fourth episode, which ended with quite the twist. As fans who’ve seen the latest Moon Knight episode know, it ends with the titular character apparently dying after taking a bullet to the chest. With the aforementioned twist, however, the iconic Moon Knight actually wakes up in an asylum setting soon after. And, to make matters even more jarring, everyone involved with the asylum happens to be previous characters from the show.
It’s a shocking sequence but one that isn’t so out of place. In fact, for those who are familiar with the Moon Knight comics, they’ll know perfectly well what’s going on. As it just so happens, as noted via ComicBook, this Moon Knight twist appears to be influenced by the run from writer Jeff Lemire and artist Greg Smallwood. Their run opens with Moon Knight, aka Marc Spector, trapped in an asylum and unable to tell what’s real or fake. It’s eventually revealed that this is a plot created by Khonshu himself.
Indeed, those who’ve read the comics learned that Khonshu placed Marc Spector in a mental prison, in the shape of the asylum, to break him down. Eventually, Marc’s other personalities also come to the surface, and they all interact with one another as they try to survive Khonshu’s torment. It seems like the Disney Plus series is now taking a similar direction. Of course, the comic series ultimately ended with Marc Spector acquiring freedom from Khonshu. As such, it seems like something similar could end up happening with the live-action series.
Of course, Disney is also known for making their own changes when it comes to source material. So perhaps there will still be plenty of other surprises in store for Marc Spector and his various personalities. As such, fans will just have to keep watching Moon Knight each Wednesday in an effort to find out.
