Warner Bros is in the midst of developing a new series based on DC Comics character John Constantine for HBO Max. The new series, appropriately titled Constantine, is currently in the midst of casting. While some exciting plot details have surfaced as a result, a new report is making its way across the internet. As it turns out, it’s being reported that Gangs of London actor Sope Dirisu is being eyed for the titular role as John Constantine.
As mentioned above, Sope Dirisu is perhaps best known for his role in Gangs of London. However, he’s also been a part of other television projects such as The Mill, Humans, and Black Mirror. He’s also been involved with the films His House, Silent Night, and Mothering Sunday to name a few. With his growing career, Sope Dirisu certainly makes sense as Warner Bros’ choice for John Constantine.
Of course, this will also be the first time that a black actor would be cast as John Constantine. But considering his British lineage, he’d certainly be a good choice for a London-set adaptation of the Hellblazer comics. With that said, these details, via The Illuminerdi, also have yet to be confirmed. As such, fans will have to take this information with a grain of salt. But with casting underway, it shouldn’t be much longer until we have a definitive answer. So stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any further updates as we have them.
Here’s the exciting setup of the new series…
“The series blends urban action, body horror, and the supernatural on the streets of modern-day London. It follows a young man whose entire world is upended when a chance encounter with a young girl pulls him into the dark and treacherous world of the occult.”
The new Constantine HBO Max series is expected to begin production this September, with shooting to run through February 2023 in both London and Morocco.
