While fans wait for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a very exciting sequel because of the secrecy surrounding it, a major clue might’ve just dropped on social media. It seems that a crew member was given “reference materials,” aka an original Doctor Strange comic book, as a gift for his work on the upcoming film. This is a massive revelation because the comic book actually includes three characters that have so far been unconfirmed to appear in the sequel.
As you can see below, a member of the film’s stunt crew – Mark Wagner – posted the following caption along with an image of the gift on Instagram:
“When the director gives you some of his reference materials as a wrap gift.”

This particular gift, aka Doctor Strange comic, happens to be issue #48 from the year 1974. This issue features the Marvel character Clea, who you can see on the cover along with Doctor Strange, and other characters such as Brother Voodoo and Sara Wolfe. It seems likely that these characters, or at least Clea, could now be appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in some fashion. Especially if this comic happens to be one of the film’s reference materials. However, it’s likely that it will mostly be in a cameo capacity, as the film is otherwise full of characters.
Clea is a character that’s been romantically involved with Doctor Strange at some points in the past, and has several ties with Dormammu. As such, it’ll make sense if they want to introduce her now and give her larger roles in future films. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how things pan out in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel first.
The highly-anticipated sequel to Doctor Strange, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will be released in theaters on May 4, 2022.
