The latest trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard is currently underway. While the trial is still in its early stages, there have been some interesting revelations already. For example, Johnny Depp’s lawyers have made it perfectly clear that they believe Amber Heard faked her abuse allegations. Reason being? They insist it was a way for Amber Heard to advance her acting career.
As noted via ET Canada, Johnny Depp’s attorneys Benjamin Chew and Camille Vasquez both made the argument. According to their stance, a 2018 op-ed written by Amber Heard in The Washington Post is part of what gives her away.
The team noted that the article, which they say defamed Johnny Depp by implication, included the following quote:
“Two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture’s wrath for women who speak out.”
Benjamin Chew explained that this is a clear reference to Amber Heard’s May 2016 restraining order against Johnny Depp. This occurred right after Johnny Depp called for a divorce and Amber Heard claimed she was physically abused by Depp. Interestingly, Benjamin Chew mentioned that on May 27, 2016, Amber Heard was spotted by the paparazzi with a bruise on her face. But it just so happens that Amber Heard last saw Johnny Depp on May 21. The actor was busy with a European tour alongside his band Hollywood Vampires.
Furthermore, Benjamin Chew said that Amber Heard was seen by police immediately after May 21, when Johnny Depp had already left, and said she didn’t have any bruises. As such, ET mentioned the following:
“He said a witness will testify that he saw security footage in which Heard’s sister throws fake punches at her, and the two laugh.”
Camille Vasquez had the following to say about Amber Heard and how she allegedly faked her abuse:
“She can’t back down. She has been living and breathing this lie for years,” Vasquez said. “She’s going to give the performance of a lifetime in this courtroom.”
With the trial scheduled to continue for another six weeks, there will still be plenty of other developments. But in the meantime, this is a hefty start, and one that could go either way at this point. While Johnny Depp’s lawyers have already dished out plenty of heat towards Amber Heard, her legal team likewise insists they’ll be showing the public “the real Johnny Depp.” As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any further updates on these legal procedures as we have them.
