The ongoing legal debacle between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp has given fans an incredible amount of insight into their lives and careers. Now another development suggests that Amber Heard, who many fans petitioned to keep away from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, was almost kept out of the film by Warner Bros themselves. This is a surprising revelation, and while they eventually ended up hiring her, it appears that she still wasn’t granted a commensurate bump in payment.
One reason why fans wanted Amber Heard to be removed from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is that the legal debacle cost Johnny Depp his role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. As such, many fans thought it was only fair if Amber Heard received the same treatment. Especially as new evidence suggested that she was just as guilty in her marriage as she insisted Johnny Depp was. Interestingly, however, she was kept on by Warner Bros. So hearing that the studio didn’t initially want Amber Heard in the Aquaman sequel is quite interesting.
As noted by Matthew Belloni at Puck:
“Warner Bros. initially declined to pick up Heard’s option for Aquaman 2, I’m told, despite the first film grossing $1.1 billion.”
He further noted that this might become public record if President of DC Films Walter Hamada gives deposition:
“Hamada is said to have testified that Heard was initially not picked up because there were concerns about her chemistry with star Jason Momoa. Indeed, the duo have publicly referenced issues on set during the first film. But Heard’s team believed the Depp scandal was the real cause of the reluctance.”
Matthew Belloni further revealed that Amber Heard “wasn’t able to negotiate a fee increase commensurate with co-stars like Momoa, as might be expected on the follow-up to such a runaway hit.” This is definitely an interesting aspect to note, and one that is apparently a “direct financial consequence of the Depp lies.”
As the legal trials between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard continue, this is only the latest development in a long line of shocking revelations. At this rate, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for further updates on the situation between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard as we have them.
