It’s been 15 years since Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 movie came out – and while that franchise is presumably done, as we’ve already seen two actors come after Tobey Maguire in Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, Spider-Man: No Way Home showed everyone that anything can happen when you’re using a Marvel multiverse storyline. The 2007 film had poor reviews from both fans and critics, but that hasn’t stopped fans from campaigning for Spider-Man 4 with Maguire and Sam Raimi returning.
As some fans might already know, Spider-Man 4 was planned out and said to feature Mysterio and Vulture as the villains before Sony cancelled plans for that movie and rebooted the franchise with Andrew Garfield, who was eventually replaced by Tom Holland in the MCU. While Tom Holland is obviously the future, some would still like to see a fourth film in that franchise. With Sam Raimi returning to Marvel to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, could it be a possibility?
During an interview with Fandango, Raimi was asked about Spider-Man 4 and offered the following:
“I’ve come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.”
The idea may sound cool, but it’s unlikely to happen, as Spider-Man: No Way Home was considered the perfect send-off for those versions of Spider-Man. Then again, however, it’s unclear what Sony plans to do with Spider-Man for their movie universe, so could it be possible that they bring back Tobey Maguire? We’ll just have to wait and see – but stranger things have happened.
