It may be hard to believe, but the inevitable reboot of The Crow is once again in the works. This time, however, they’ve picked quite an interesting choice to take on the titular role. It’s just been announced that none other than Bill Skarsgård will play the lead role in The Crow. Fans will recognize Bill Skarsgård as the face of Pennywise, the modern-day icon from IT: Chapter One and its 2019 sequel. In a weird way, then, Bill Skarsgård as the lead in The Crow makes a lot of sense.
As for the film’s director, we have word on that as well. THR was able to confirm that along with Bill Skarsgård starring, filmmaker Rupert Sanders has been hired on to direct the film. Two of his previous efforts include the films Snow White and the Huntsman as well as the live-action Ghost in the Shell film adaptation. Thus, much like Bill Skarsgård, he seems to also make sense to tackle this iteration of The Crow as well. The screenplay for the film will be written by Zach Baylin, who fans will recognize as the screenwriter of King Richard.
If you’re unsure if this iteration will get off the ground, however, you’ll be surprised. They’ve noted that everything seems to have fallen into place for a reboot of The Crow to finally manifest itself. Here’s what they shared:
“The project is well into preproduction ahead of a June start date, with shooting to take place in Prague and Munich. The budget is in the $50 million range, and it does appear like the film will actually take flight.”
Of course, subsequent projects in the franchise haven’t always seen the level of success that the original starring Brandon Lee did. So whether or not this reboot will manage to live up to the expectations remains to be seen. But with Bill Skarsgård in front of the camera and Rupert Sanders behind, it should be an exciting effort.
