Morbius is set to hit theaters next week and will be the first Marvel character in the Sony Universe to get their own solo movie since Venom. While Venom and its sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage didn’t get great reviews, they were still looked at as fun movies and made a lot of money at the box office – and even saw the title character cross over into the Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man films via two post-credit scenes. If the early reactions of Morbius are any indication, it doesn’t sound like we can expect to see this title character in the MCU any time soon.
Last week, there was a tweet that was sent out that stated several journalists saw the Jared Leto starring film and were very disappointed with it and that fans wanting to see it in the theater should just wait until its home release. It’s fair to point out that sometimes critics can hate a film – while fans can love it. It happens quite a bit with comic book movies. However, there are now some reactions from recent early screenings – and they are not good either.
As you can see from the reviews below, the people who saw the film didn’t enjoy it:
Well, #Morbius is about as bad as you were expecting. A 2005 plot collides with visually confusing CGI to create a bit of a snooze fest. But don’t worry, they’ve saved the worst for last. Featuring some of the worst post credits scenes you’ve EVER seen, Sony are off their rocker. pic.twitter.com/TMfVpq95Tn

In #Morbius Matt Smith gloriously hams up the place and Oliver Wood delivers some visual flare to the action sequences.
Aside from that, the bad plotting & messy cgi, confusing editing & worse sound mix result in absolute incoherence

Unfortunately, after seeing a preview screening, these are my thoughts on #Morbius 🤐 pic.twitter.com/eLCgK0DPYa

Morbius is just as disjointed and boring as you expected it to be.
Clearly butchered in an edit by a studio who had no clue what they wanted to do with it – not that there’s a good film trapped in there.
Mid credits are a joke but stick around if you like rolling your eyes pic.twitter.com/XxDvgYYWPF

Well #Morbius is unfortunately not great (some really shoddy vfx & 00s formulaic plot) & definitely not as fun as Venom. Really confused at the future of the Sony Spiderverse following the post-credits scenes & the editing 🤷♀️ Matt Smith is clearly having a blast though! pic.twitter.com/ZCz8aLeUL0

So there you have it. Bad reviews weren’t enough to stop fans from seeing Venom in the theater back in 2018 – but Morbius isn’t as big of a character, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens, as there still seems to be a pretty decent amount of hype about this movie.
Morbius is set to hit theaters on April 1st.
