Many Arnold Schwarzenegger films have gone on to either spawn sequels or become massive franchises. This includes the likes of Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, and Predator to name a few. Of course, some of these continuations have featured the return of cinematic icon Arnold Schwarzenegger, and others have not. Now another classic Arnold Schwarzenegger film is being rebooted with a sequel – this time, however, without the involvement of Schwarzenegger. Indeed, fans of the film Eraser will soon have a reboot on their hands – the straight-to-video film Eraser: Reborn. And fans can now see the trailer for Eraser: Reborn down below.
As noted above, Arnold Schwarzenegger does not reprise his role as the titular Eraser for the film. With a cast of new stars and new characters, this film merely adopts a similar premise to that from the very successful 1996 film. Nevertheless, it proves that even stand-alone Schwarzenegger films are still capable of being mined for franchise potential decades after their release.
Here’s the Eraser: Reborn trailer:
Here’s the premise for the new film…
“U.S. Marshal Mason Pollard specializes in “erasing” people – faking the deaths of high- risk witnesses. With the technological advances of the last 25 years, the game has upgraded, and it’s just another day at the office when he’s assigned to Rina Kimura, a crime boss’ wife who’s decided to turn state’s evidence. As the two flee to Cape Town, South Africa, with a team of merciless assassins on their trail, Pollard discovers he’s been set up. Double-crossed and fueled by adrenaline, he needs to be at the top of his game, or he’ll be the one who’s erased. Permanently.”
John Pogue (The Quiet Ones, Deep Blue Sea 3) directed the film from a screenplay by Michael Weiss (Jarhead 3: The Siege). The film was produced by Roserock Films via Hunt Lowry and Patty Reed.
The cast includes Dominic Sherwood as Mason Pollard, Jacky Lai as Rina Kimura, McKinley Belcher III as Paul Whitlock, and Eddie Ramos as Sugar Jax.
Eraser: Reborn will be available on Digital, Blu-ray, and DVD on June 7, 2022.
