The upcoming film Ant-Man 3, otherwise titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, will unite a variety of familiar and new MCU stars. Unfortunately for some fans, it looks like one Ant-Man actor won’t be returning for Ant-Man 3. In particular, actor David Dastmalchian has revealed he’ll be absent from the third film, which is currently in production.
Fans will remember David Dastmalchian for his role as Kurt in the first Ant-Man film, its initial sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp, and he’ll also be appearing in the upcoming Disney Plus series Moon Knight. But for those hoping he’d also be in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, that isn’t going to be the case. He revealed as much while speaking with ScreenRant at the Moon Knight premiere.
As he stated:
“It doesn’t look like it… But that’s okay. I know they’re making something incredible.”
He also spoke about the film’s director, Peyton Reed, and emphasized how excited he is to see his work. He further repeated that it’s going to be “an incredible film.”
I can’t wait to see what Peyton does next. He’s one of my favorite directors… He’s been so busy. I have tried to stay in touch, but he’s making an incredible film right now.”
Without the involvement of David Dastmalchian and many other familiar Ant-Man stars, it certainly looks like this film will be taking a very different direction. But with the way the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been operating as of late, this isn’t exactly surprising. Either way, it’ll be exciting to see what happens with this new film. Especially given David Dastmalchian’s emphasis that it will be “something incredible.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is being directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay written by Jeff Loveness.
The confirmed cast for the film includes Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, and Jonathan Majors.
Audiences will be able to see Ant-Man 3 on July 28, 2023.
