Fans of the Star Wars franchise have been waiting for a proper update regarding Rogue Squadron, the next film to be released set in the galaxy far, far away. While previous films have suggested that the film might’ve been delayed indefinitely, Disney still has the film scheduled for their 2023 release slate. As such, the situation has become quite unclear. But now an exciting new update has been given for Rogue Squadron, and it should give Star Wars fans plenty of hope for the project.
In particular, it looks like the creator of the Rogue Squadron depicted in previous Star Wars works, specifically the Legends X-Wing novels and comics, was contacted “early on” by director Patty Jenkins. Many fans were hoping that these X-Wing properties would have had an impact on the upcoming Rogue Squadron film, and now it looks like that is indeed the case.
As shared via Twitter user @Jedi4Liberty, who apparently met author and Rogue Squadron creator Michael A. Stackpole:
“Great meeting Michael Stackpole who told me he was highly excited about the upcoming #RogueSquadron movie and assured me Patty Jenkins had been in contact with him early on.”
As stated above, fans were hoping that the X-Wing stories would have some kind of influence over this film. Now it seems that’s definitely the case. Of course, it’s still unknown when exactly the film is scheduled to start production – especially with it being scheduled for a December 2023 release date.
With the amount of silence regarding the film elsewhere, it’s possible that Disney could initiate some kind of delay. But for now, it seems possible that the film will be hear at the end of next year. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more news on the Star Wars: Rogue Squadron film and any other Star Wars project updates as we have them.
