Although the initial announcement that Nicolas Cage would be playing Dracula was already exciting enough, fans can finally get a look at Cage as the iconic monster. And as one can expect, Nicolas Cage is giving the role everything he has. While most modern interpretations of the character have tried to make Dracula less extravagant or ghoulish, especially compared to his early screen incarnations, the upcoming film Renfield appears to embrace these aspects. This is particularly evident in new Renfield set photos which show Nicolas Cage in his full Dracula costume.
With slicked black hair, pale skin, long fingernails, and many more iconic traits, it’s a true transformation. But when considering the roles that Nicolas Cage has taken on in recent years, it certainly seems fitting for him.

It’s clear that Nicolas Cage is portraying quite a unique version of the iconic character, albeit one that wears its influences on its sleeve. There’s clearly some inspiration from Christopher Lee, Vincent Price, and even Bela Lugosi throughout this design. It’ll be exciting to see what Nicolas Cage has to offer while in action.
Aside from star Nicolas Cage as the aforementioned Dracula, Nicholas Hoult will play the titular Renfield. As for the setup of the film…
“The film centers on Renfield (Hoult), who has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s (Cage) lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on life and maybe even redemption when he falls for feisty, perennially angry traffic cop Rebecca Quincy (Awkwafina).”
Renfield is being directed by Chris McKay. The film itself was written by Ryan Ridley based on a story outline from The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman. Chris McKay and Robert Kirkman are producing along with David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst. Chris McKay’s producing partner, Samantha Nisenboim, is attached as executive producer
A release date for Renfield has not yet been decided, but we can hope for more details soon especially with casting underway. As such, fans should stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on Universal’s Renfield movie as we have them.
