The upcoming Addams Family series for Netflix, titled Wednesday, just got a major announcement. As it turns out, actress Christina Ricci will be appearing in Wednesday as a series regular – returning to the franchise for the first time since the 1990’s. Interestingly, however, Christina Ricci will be playing an entirely new character this time around. As for the title role, Jenna Ortega plays Wednesday in this incarnation.
It’s worth noting that details about Christina Ricci’s role in the series “are being kept under wraps” as a sort of “surprise for fans.” This should certainly drive up interest in the upcoming Netflix series, which has already gained notoriety for the involvement of Tim Burton as director. This will actually mark Tim Burton’s first television series, and it’s quite fitting that Christina Ricci is involved since she worked with Burton on the 1999 film Sleepy Hollow.
As revealed in the report from Deadline:
“Details about Ricci’s role are being kept under wraps to protect the surprise for fans but I can reveal that she plays a new character and not an older version of Wednesday. Ricci has been quietly working on Wednesday for months; filming on the MGM-produced series is slated to wrap in Romania at the end of the month.”
Hopefully we’ll have more details on Wednesday soon, especially if the project is scheduled to wrap at the end of this month. With Christina Ricci playing a series regular for Wednesday, the possibilities are certainly opening up for a very surprising and exciting television series. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on the project as we have them.
Aside from the aforementioned Jenna Ortega and Christina Ricci, the cast for the series also includes Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams and Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams. Tim Burton directed the series while Alfred Gough and Miles Millar were attached as writers and showrunners.
