It isn’t any surprise that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has both gradually and quickly become much more diverse than ever before. With so many new types of characters being added to the massive superhero franchise, it seems as though Marvel is introducing first-time characters left and right. Now it’s been reported that Marvel is preparing to introduce the first non-binary MCU character, someone that will appear in the upcoming Disney Plus series Ironheart.
As of this writing, details for this non-binary MCU character are rather scarce. But as revealed via insider Daniel Richtman, the character will appear in all six episodes of the Disney Plus series. The exact identity of the character is currently unknown. According to the casting call, they’ve been described as: “extremely intelligent, shrewd” and “poised.”
As mentioned above, this will be one of many new firsts for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with many of its superheroes becoming increasingly diverse and representative of various types of people. This includes both new and old characters, such as Loki who has been revealed to be both genderfluid and bisexual. Thus, it’ll be interesting to see which MCU character will be introduced as non-binary in the upcoming Ironheart Disney Plus series.
The project is reportedly intended to begin shooting this April, so hopefully we’ll have more details around then. As of right now, it’s only known that actress Dominique Thorne will be playing Riri Williams and Anthony Ramos will play an unknown character.. But as we near the production start date, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for additional updates as we have them. So keep an eye out in the coming months.
The Ironheart Disney Plus series is expected to premiere on the streaming platform sometime next year in 2023. Fans will first see its titular character, aka Riri Williams, however, in the upcoming film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 11, 2022.
