With work on the next Scream film already underway, and plans to shoot the sequel this summer, it should be no surprise that the film is scheduled for a release next year. In fact, it’s just been confirmed that Scream 6 will be released on March 31, 2023 – for a theatrical release! This is exciting news, especially for fans that have been hoping the film would be out sooner rather than later. It’s very reminiscent of the short timespan between the original Scream and Scream 2, which was only about a year. When you compare that to the near decade between Scream 4 and the newest film, it’s quite refreshing to already have a sequel in the works.
This information comes from Paramount, via the official @ScreamMovies Twitter page. As you can see in the caption below:

Hopefully we’ll have more news soon, especially with production starting this summer. It was just announced that franchise veteran Courteney Cox would be returning for Scream 6, so at this rate, we’ll probably have some other casting announcements before we know it. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any other updates on the Scream film franchise as we have them. After the success of the fifth film in theaters earlier this year, it’s safe to say that the film franchise is in good hands. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of direction they take with this upcoming sixth installment. At least we’ll only have to wait until early 2023 to find out what’s in store for Scream 6.
The highly-anticipated sequel Scream 6 will be directed by 2022 Scream directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence. James Vanderbilt & Guy Busick will also return to write the script. Kevin Williamson will executive produce, alongside Radio Silence member Chad Villella. Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre of Spyglass will also act as executive producers.
