Actor Nicolas Cage became the first actor to play a live-action interpretation of Ghost Rider, a role he played for two feature films. While a new version of the character would later be introduced in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., many fans still hope for a return from Nicolas Cage. And with the continued success of his acting career, it’s hard not to see why. Now Nicolas Cage has given some subtle comments about returning to his role as Ghost Rider.
While he wasn’t very specific, it certainly seems as though he’s open to a return. And as always, that’s all it takes for these things to begin taking shape. With the Multiverse becoming a larger part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it certainly seems like Nicolas Cage could make for a pretty great cameo if nothing else. Of course, it seems as though Marvel has yet to reach out to him about the part.
Here’s what Nicolas Cage said while speaking with ComicBook about whether or not he was contacted to return as Ghost Rider:
“Not yet, no,” he began. “That hasn’t happened, but what’s interesting is nobody asked me about going back to Ghost Rider. That was a question that came up, and they weren’t asking about Ghost Rider, they were asking ‘What do you think of the Marvel movies?’ And I gave my opinion about it.”
He then elaborated when asked specifically if he’d like to come back and play Ghost Rider yet again:
“Ghost Rider is an amazing character,” he answered. “I mean, he’s a complicated character. It’s kind of like, how do you tell the story of Faust within the context of that universe? Because it’s a very philosophical character. I think it makes him special from other superheroes.”
It’s definitely an interesting response. While he didn’t give a direct answer, he did suggest he still has a love and appreciation for the character. As such, fans will just have to keep their eyes open to see if Nicolas Cage ever makes a comeback as Ghost Rider.
