Fans were surprised to see that Rob Zombie would direct The Munsters, a film based on the classic television series of the same name. Obviously, Rob Zombie has mostly made content that was more for adults than children, and audiences were confused as to what tone this new adaptation would take. As it turns out, it won’t be very dark at all. In fact, The Munsters has just officially been rated PG. It seems as though this adaptation will be a faithful one after all.
With Rob Zombie’s filmography having included such films as House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween, and 31 – it was easy to believe that The Munsters could’ve ended up just as dark and twisted. But with Rob Zombie being a massive fan of the original franchise, it’s clear that he wants to do the brand justice. As such, The Munsters will remain PG rated – and that should keep fans of the franchise quite happy to hear.
Here’s the reason behind the PG rating for The Munsters, via Bloody-Disgusting:
“Macabre and suggestive material, scary images and language.”
The surprising cast for the film features Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster, and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa Munster. The cast also includes Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, Jorge Garcia as Floop, and Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp the gypsy queen.
It’s unknown what the expected release date for the film will be. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for updates on that front as we have them. At this rate, we’ll hopefully have more news soon. It’s worth noting that The Munsters was previously rumored to premiere exclusively on Peacock, so it’ll be interesting to see if that ends up being the case. For now, however, that should be taken with a grain of salt.
