The upcoming Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi will be bringing back quite a few iconic characters aside from just Obi-Wan. This includes Darth Vader, the powerful Sith Lord that used to be Anakin Skywalker. While we recently got our first teaser trailer for the upcoming series, we now have our first image of Darth Vader as he’ll appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi. And he looks as terrifying as ever.
The image, which comes courtesy of EW, reveals Darth Vader in his Mustafar Castle. It appears he has a meditation chamber behind him, much like the one we saw in The Empire Strikes Back. As such, it seems likely that fans might even get to see Hayden Christensen’s face behind the Darth Vader mask at some point during the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
Here’s the image:
Writer Joby Harold had the following to say about Darth Vader’s presence in the Disney Plus series:
“His shadow is cast across so much of what we do,” he teased. “And the degree of his proximity to that shadow is something that we’ll discover. But he is very much a part of the show emotionally for Obi-Wan, and possibly beyond that as well.”
Similarly, Hayden Christensen teased that this incarnation of Darth Vader is going to be “very powerful,” and judging by the new image, that sounds about right. This is essentially Darth Vader at his peak, so it’ll be exciting to see what the character does going into this series.
The new limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi was directed by Deborah Chow and executive-produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Deborah Chow, Ewan McGregor and Joby Harold.
Aside from Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, the cast for the series also includes Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell and Benny Safdie.
Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on Disney Plus on May 25.
