The Predator film franchise will soon be exploring uncharted territory. It’s been previously announced that Disney via 20th Century Studios placed a new prequel into production, titled Prey, which would explore the first Earthly encounter from the iconic alien hunters. Interestingly, the setting of the film has now been confirmed to take place in 1719, with the action of Prey taking place in the Great Plains.
This news comes via THR, where 20th Century Studios president Steve Asbell discussed their upcoming projects. In particular, he discussed their new plan to have 10-plus movies a year distributed on Hulu. This includes the aforementioned Predator prequel.
As he began:
“In order to meet the volume that we are looking at — which is, by 2023, 10-plus movies just for streaming — it’s going to be a combination of originals in those genres. And coolest of all for fans, we get to find bold takes on beloved Fox properties.”
He further elaborated by referencing Prey, and how the film is set in 1719:
“You can take big creative swings — which you’ll see with Prey, which we’ll launch this summer. A Predator movie set in the Great Plains in 1719 by Dan Trachtenberg. That’s what this allows us to do.”
While it was previously confirmed that the film would involve the Predator and a Comanche woman played by Amber Midthunder, this is an exciting update to know just when and where exactly the film takes place. It’ll be interesting to see what else comes of this deal to provide more content to Hulu as opposed to theaters.
The upcoming Predator prequel titled Prey is expected to be released on Hulu sometime this summer. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on the project as we have them. There should certainly be more news coming soon, so keep an eye out.
