Fans are excited for The Batman, Matt Reeves’ upcoming take on the titular superhero character, which will also be launching its own unique continuity. Robert Pattinson takes on the role of Batman in this incarnation, and fans are eager to know what’s coming next. While it looks like a sequel is in development, along with two spin-off shows centered around The Penguin and the Gotham P.D., some fans might be curious if The Batman has a post-credits scene to tease any of these follow-ups. As it turns out, there is a post-credits scene, but it’s not quite what you’d expect.
The post-credits scene for The Batman actually doesn’t necessarily tease any future sequels, at least not at first glance. Instead, it seems to be a tease for the ongoing The Batman ARG (augmented reality game) that fans have been participating in. Specifically, the following happens:
A green question mark flashes on screen. The word “Good Bye” is then typed, placed over the question mark, and there’s another quick flash of text. While this second flash of text is very quick, and can actually be traced back as the URL for “Rataalada,” the website used by Riddler in the film. Interestingly, there actually is such a website in real life, though it’s being used as part of the aforementioned ARG game. As such, it seems like the new movie might very well be tying in with the game for its post-credits scene.
It’s unclear if this will lead to any future developments, such as actual teases for future projects, but it certainly is an interesting move. Hopefully we’ll have more details as The Batman is released to theaters and more fans have an opportunity to see the film. With spin-offs and at least one sequel already in development, it’s clear there’s going to be much more content on the way regardless of post-credits scenes.
As of March 4, 2022, Matt Reeves’ The Batman is currently playing in theaters.
