The DCEU has been expanding in a wonderful number of directions lately, most recently with the hit HBO Max series Peacemaker. The show has already been renewed for a second season, with creator and The Suicide Squad director preparing for additional DC projects. On the theatrical side of things, however, fans still have upcoming films including The Flash as well as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to look forward to. And as it turns out, there will be quite a bit of continuity between the two films – along with a certain Wonder Woman as well.
Specifically, we’ve learned that Aquaman actor Jason Momoa and Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot will both be appearing in the upcoming film The Flash.
This is exciting news for fans of the DCEU. While we’ve already expected a variety of familiar superheroes to make appearances in The Flash, Jason Momoa was an unexpected addition. It was reported by The Illuminerdi back in 2020 that Gal Gadot was “being pursued” to appear in the film but aside from that, there was no confirmation of the actress being cast. It shows how just about everyone involved with the Justice League will be impacted by the events of the film.
While it’s unclear how exactly this will impact the canon going forward, we have already seen examples with upcoming projects like Batgirl which feature Michael Keaton as Batman instead of Ben Affleck. As such, it’ll be interesting to see how the upcoming Aquaman and Wonder Woman sequels are also going to be effected.
Hopefully we’ll have more details on the project soon and what DC has planned. In any case, with Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot joining the cast, The Flash is growing to be quite the comic book event. Fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on the project as we have them.
Andy Muschietti directed The Flash from a script written by Christina Hodson.
Ezra Miller will star in the film as the aforementioned titular superhero The Flash. Meanwhile, actor Michael Keaton will be playing Bruce Wayne aka Batman for the first time since Batman Returns. Actress Sasha Calle will be joining the cast as Supergirl. Actor Ben Affleck is also expected to return as his version of Batman from the modern DCEU.
The film is currently scheduled for a theatrical release date later this year on November 4, 2022.
