After the success of the first Sonic the Hedgehog video game film adaptation, a sequel was quickly greenlit and thrown into production. The film will see many returning cast members such as Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, but there will be plenty of new faces as well. In particular, fans will get to see Knuckles the Echidna this time around, with the character being voiced by actor Idris Elba. As such, this film is highly-anticipated by fans of the video game franchise, and now a brand new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has been released.
As you can see below, the new footage matches what was previously released in December. This time, however, there are additional clips from the film that paint an even better idea of what’s to come. Altogether, it looks like a great time for fans of Sonic and his friends Tails and Knuckles.
Here’s the trailer:
Hopefully we’ll have more footage or promotional materials for the upcoming film released soon. With the release date scheduled only a few months away, it shouldn’t be much more of a wait. Nevertheless, it’s always nice to see new footage. Thusly, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as we have them.
Here’s the plot of the new film…
“After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is eager to prove he has what it takes to be a true hero. His test comes when Dr. Robotnik returns, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a globe-trotting journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”
Jeff Fowler directed the film which was written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington.
The film will once again star Ben Schwartz as the titular Sonic the Hedgehog, with Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails and Idris Elba as Knuckles. Jim Carrey will reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik while James Marsden will also return.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently scheduled for a release date on April 8, 2022.
