There’s a great selection of horror films available on HBO Max, including those films added because of their presence on HBO. This includes the 2005 horror film The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which was helmed by Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson long before he stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And while the film has always had its fans, being one of the few original possession films outside of The Exorcist to really gain notoriety, it appears that it’s actually reaching new heights on HBO Max. In particular, The Exorcism of Emily Rose has reached the Top 10 spot on HBO Max.
This information comes via FlixPatrol, where they noted that The Exorcism of Emily Rose broke into the Top 10 movies being streamed via HBO this month. This is a big step for a film that’s from 2005, especially one that isn’t quite as popular as something like The Exorcist. As such, it’s great to see that the film still maintains its ability to find an audience and attract new viewers. It goes to show just how skilled of a director Scott Derrickson is, even as far back as then.
As for those who aren’t familiar with the film, which is inspired by true events, this is the plot:
“When a younger girl called Emily Rose dies, everyone puts blame on the exorcism which was performed on her by Father Moore prior to her death. The priest is arrested on suspicion of murder. The trail begins with lawyer Erin Bruner representing Moore, but it is not going to be easy, as no one wants to believe what Father Moore says is true.”
If you haven’t seen the film before, or would like to revisit it, then there’s no perfect time than now. Especially if you have the HBO Max streaming service, which will allow you to conveniently watch The Exorcism of Emily Rose with your subscription.
The cast for the film includes Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson, Campbell Scott, Jennifer Carpenter, Kenneth Welsh, Mary Beth Hurt, and Colm Feore.
