It looks like many Disney fans are unhappy with CEO Bob Chapek, and they’re ready to have him removed from the company. In fact, these fans have already come up with a variety of campaigns dedicated to this purpose. This includes a number of fans that have actually purchased the company’s stock for the sole purpose of voting against his re-election at the annual shareholder meeting coming this March. These campaigns first started to come into fruition by Reddit.
As noted via NYPost, users were complaining about a wide number of issues with Disney. This includes the price increases for Disneyland and Disney World, costs of food and merchandise, and even customer service. One such shareholder who visited Disney World’s Epcot emphasized the issues they’ve had while visiting the park.
They wrote the following:
“The magic is gone. Parks were oversold, 2 hour+ waits for everything, major rides like Ratatouille and Rise of the Resistance ‘down’ all day, plus charging now for fast pass access, charging for parking at Disney resorts,” the user wrote. “No parades, food prices out of control. Seriously, how many millions does one CEO need. We’ve been to Disney annually for the last 12 years and what’s going on there now is heartbreaking.”
As for one Reddit user, he explained their plan to have Bob Chapek voted against during the annual shareholder meeting. Here’s what they explained:
“If you are a Disney shareholder you likely received an email yesterday asking you to vote in the annual meeting. Bob Chapek is up for re-election to the board of directors.
“This is the most direct way to let Disney know if you are unhappy with his leadership, at least more so than complaining on Reddit or signing an online petition,” they added. “It may seem insignificant, and will likely not be successful in removing him directly, but recall that Michael Eisner lost 43% of the vote in 2004 after Roy E. Disney lead a campaign to oust him and he was removed shortly thereafter. We can do this again.”
The associated social media platforms are filled with people upset by Bob Chapek and the price increases at Disney. While Disney has insisted they’re a necessity to recoup their losses following the pandemic, others don’t believe that’s accurate. In fact, they’ve listed examples like Disney’s “Halcyon starcruiser” which offers fans a two-night star to enjoy a Star Wars-inspired vacation. However, prices for a two-night stay on weeknights begin at $4,809 in a two-guest cabin. The price then increases to $5,299 for a three-guest cabin, and then to $5,999 for a four-guest cabin.
Fans have even started the following petition at Change.org, in which they’ve tried to get support to fire Bob Chapek. As of this writing, the petition already has more than 100,000 signatures.
