It’s always great to see a horror film that turns out to be rather subversive or unexpected. This appears to be the case with the upcoming horror film The Exorcism of God, which as you can tell by the title, is a little crazier than you’d expect. This is evident in the film’s official trailer as well, which appears to be a blend of The Exorcist and the much zanier The Evil Dead. This should certainly catch the attention of any horror fans looking for something different this year.
While possession films are often quite common, especially these days, it isn’t often that a big-budget one emulates the over-the-top horror and comedy that films like The Evil Dead provide. With the new decade, it’s clear that horror films are going to be changing and adapting to suit moviegoers as their tastes change. Hopefully this film turns out to be one such refreshing change, as the new trailer seems to suggest.
Here’s the official trailer for The Exorcism of God:
As for the plot of the upcoming horror comedy film…
“Peter Williams, an American priest working in Mexico, is possessed by a demon he was trying to expel and ends up committing the most terrible sacrilege. Eighteen years later, the consequences of his sin come back to haunt him, unleashing the greatest battle within.”
The film was directed by Alejandro Hidalgo, while he wrote the screenplay for The Exorcism of God alongside Santiago Fernández Calvete. The cast includes María Gabriela de Faría, Joseph Marcell, and Will Beinbrink.
Luckily, horror fans that are interested in checking out the upcoming film won’t have much longer to wait. Audiences will be able to see The Exorcism of God just next month when it arrives in theaters, on demand, and on digital video platforms on March 11, 2022.
