The Scream franchise was revived this year, with the release of the 2022 film Scream which actually acts as Scream 5. Many fans were pleased with the film, which brought back so many fan-favorite characters and storylines back to the surface. Now it seems we’ll see more of that, as it’s been revealed that Paramount and Spyglass have officially ordered the production of Scream 6.
This news, via Bloody-Disgusting, illustrates the success that Scream has had this year. The film has made over $100 million at the box office, which is more than its predecessor managed to do, and indicates that slasher films are still in demand. Between the release of Scream, and the upcoming films Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween Ends, it really is a great time to be a fan of these franchises. And with slasher films making a comeback, there’s no other perfect time for the satirical and self-aware Scream franchise to return as well to deliver more brilliant commentary and riveting thrills.
Here’s what Spyglass and Paramount had to say in their official statement:
“We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film. We can’t wait for audiences to see what Radio Silence, writers Jamie & Guy and Project X have in store for our Woodsboro family,” they announced.
Meanwhile, Radio Silence added the following statement to celebrate the good news:
“Working with such a wonderful and talented family of creators — and in the lineage Wes and Kevin so expertly built — has been the thrill of a lifetime, and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter in the Scream saga to life,” they added.
Hopefully we’ll have more news on the project soon. At the rate things are moving, it seems very likely that we’ll actually see Scream 6 as soon as next year. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any and all Scream updates as we have them.
