Fans of the DC Comics character Batgirl have been excited to know she’s finally getting her own solo-film. The upcoming movie, which will debut on HBO Max, is currently in production. Unfortunately, it looks like local businesses in Glasgow, Scotland are upset with the production of Batgirl. This has become evident in a variety of complaints made by the aforementioned businesses.
As noted by STF News, via GFR, local businesses have taken the opportunity to express their frustrations. It seems that the film’s production has made it difficult to operate within the city, which just so happens to be the most heavily populated city in Scotland.
As noted by clothing and printing shop owner Robert Chambers:
“Nothing was moving in the street, and the whole experience [was] a shambles.”
It seems that the Batgirl production also caused delivery delays for Frederique Villain, who owns a vintage clothing store. As a result, profits for the business have been suffering. Many other business owners have cited road closures and other such obstructions a detriment to their businesses and livelihoods.
Interestingly, however, Batgirl isn’t the only culprit. A lot of Hollywood productions have been taking advantage of Glasgow, Scotland as a major film location. And although business owners are fine with the business that being such a location brings, they feel they’re not being properly compensated by the studios involved. Hopefully they can create a solution that will leave everyone happy at the end of the day.
The upcoming Batgirl film will be co-directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The film was written by Christina Hodson.
Leslie Grace will star in the film as the titular Batgirl aka Barbara Gordon. J.K. Simmons will reprise his role as Commissioner Gordon from the DCEU. Actor Brendan Fraser has been cast as the supervillain Firefly. The aforementioned Michael Keaton will also play a role in the film, reprising his role as Batman. Jacob Scipio is also in the cast as a currently unconfirmed character.
The upcoming film is scheduled to be released sometime in 2022 on HBO Max.
