Spider-Man: No Way Home has been a hit with audiences, with both fans and critics applauding the film. It’s especially nice to see so much support for what’s really a rather ambitious film. The plot combines not only various villains from several different Spider-Man continuities, but it also brings back their superhero counterparts as well. Actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield reprise their respective roles as Spider-Man for the film, and it all comes together to create a truly memorable superhero experience. What’s interesting, however, is now that fans have had time to process the film – it turns out there’s a lot more under the surface as well. In fact, it appears that there was even a Stan Lee Easter egg intended for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
As revealed in the script for Spider-Man: No Way Home via Deadline, there was going to be “a Stan Lee look-alike” at the end of the film. The late comic book creator once had cameo appearances in most Marvel projects before his death, and they were some of the most celebrated aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As such, it’s very sweet to see that they still attempted to find him a place even in the new movie, albeit indirectly.
As revealed in the script:
“Peter finds MJ, talking and laughing with an old customer, a STAN LEE LOOK-ALIKE.
MJ turns, looks up at him, and waves. He’s taken aback…
Until he realizes she was waving at Ned, who has just entered behind him.”
And there you have it. Stan Lee is one of the most important creators in making Spider-Man who he is today, so it’s great to see the film franchise continue to pay tribute. There are plenty of other Easter eggs in the film as well, such as Stan Lee’s birthdate making up the numbers on a taxi cab. And odds are, fans will only continue to find Easter eggs hidden throughout the film.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently playing in theaters.
