Disney Plus Releases New MCU Chronological Viewing Order

    By Vince HooverJanuary 23, 2022

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is hands down the most successful and most extensive film franchise in the history of Hollywood. When you add the Disney Plus series and the One Shots to the films, you have 33 different projects on the massive list of the MCU. It can be daunting for a new fan to try and watch it all to catch up, but it is well worth the effort – and long time fans love being able to go back and binge it all in both release order and in chronological order. Now, Disney Plus has released a new, comprehensive chronological listing of the MCU that includes all 33 projects in the proper timeline order to watch if you want to follow the story linearly.

You can find the chronological order on Disney Plus now (and listed for you below) including 5 of the 7 added One Shots as well as corrections to the order (like shifting Black Panther to AFTER Black Widow). It continues to fuel the debate over whether the older television series like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is canon or not – and it also does not include the Spider-Man films – as they are from Sony and not on Disney Plus.

Check out the chronological order here:

    1. Captain America: The First Avenger
    2. Agent Carter
    3. Captain Marvel
    4. Iron Man
    5. Iron Man 2
    6. A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Thor’s Hammer
    7. Thor
    8. The Consultant
    9. The Avengers
    10. Item 47
    11. Thor: The Dark World
    12. Iron Man 3
    13. All Hail The King
    14. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    15. Guardians of the Galaxy
    16. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
    17. Avengers: Age of Ultron
    18. Ant-Man
    19. Captain America: Civil War
    20. Black Widow
    21. Black Panther
    22. Doctor Strange
    23. Thor: Ragnarok
    24. Ant-Man and The Wasp
    25. Avengers: Infinity War
    26. Avengers: Endgame
    27. Loki
    28. What If…?
    29. WandaVision
    30. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
    31. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
    32. Eternals
    33. Hawkeye

With two of the One Shots not being included in the list (the Team Thor and Team Darryl shorts), effectively stating that they are not canon to the MCU, this could help those confused over canon understand better that the Marvel Television Division before Feige took over exist outside of the main MCU. We won’t know for certain until an official word comes from Marvel, so the debate continues.

Regardless, this newly updated chronological list is great for fans who want to experience the MCU in a new way. The long time fans have seen these movies in release order, but now can enjoy them in story order. Now, new fans have the option to either watch these films and series in the order they came out first, or can watch the story unfold chronologically for a more concise understanding of the overarching plot line of the Infinity Saga.
