It’s sadly been confirmed that French actor Gaspard Ulliel died during a ski accident at age 37. This tragic news was revealed just ahead of Marvel’s Moon Knight series, which Gaspard Ulliel recently completed work for. Ulliel played the character of Anton Mogart/Midnight Man for the upcoming Disney Plus series. According to IMDb, he’ll be appearing in six episodes of the series.
The news of his death was revealed via Deadline, which noted that he suffered a head injury during the ski accident. The accident occurred in the Savoie region, and he was soon taken to a hospital in Grenoble. Unfortunately, he did not recover.
As noted in the report:
“The two-time Cesar-winning actor was hospitalized Tuesday after suffering a head injury and did not recover, the actor’s family and local agent said. He was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Grenoble following a collision on the slopes in the Savoie region.”
Aside from Moon Knight, the actor has had quite the career. While he’s been part of a wide variety of projects, many horror fans might remember the actor for having played a young Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal Rising. His performance is often considered the highlight of the film. He had also played fashion mogul Yves Saint Laurent in the biopic Saint Laurent.
This is truly devastating news, and it’ll make the release of Moon Knight on Disney Plus particularly bittersweet. While Gaspard Ulliel is no longer with us, we’ll have at least one more great performance of his to appreciate. There’s no doubt that he’ll add an exciting and noteworthy layer to the highly-anticipated Marvel show. The actor also won two Cesar Awards and two Lumiere Awards throughout his career, proving that he was an excellent actor.
Gaspard Ulliel is survived by his partner, French model and singer Gaëlle Piétri, and their one son.
