With the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, it looks like the film’s director Jon Watts could soon be working on his next MCU project. Specifically, it looks like we could be seeing him start work on Fantastic Four much sooner than later according to a new update.
While there still isn’t an official release date given for Marvel’s planned Fantastic Four reboot, we have been able to get an exciting update on the project. In particular, it looks like Fantastic Four could be Jon Watts next directorial job. With the director’s slate becoming increasingly busy, especially with producer projects like the next Final Destination coming up, this is great news.
As noted by Variety:
“His next directing gig will still likely be Marvel Studios’ reboot of the ‘Fantastic Four’ superhero franchise, which remains undated.”
While this is great to hear, it should also be noted that this information isn’t set in stone. In fact, it’s been revealed that Jon Watts is also working on directing a separate film for Apple Studios which will star both George Clooney and Brad Pitt. So while it’s likely that Jon Watts will indeed direct Fantastic Four next as revealed by the new update, he could still end up working on this Apple Studios film instead. But considering how successful his latest Spider-Man film has been, it seems possible that Marvel would want Jon Watts to get to work as soon as possible on their next collaboration.
In any case, the film is going to happen one way or another. With so many Marvel films and shows being developed at the moment, there’s certainly going to be plenty of content to hold fans over. Let’s just hope no matter what happens, though, that the wait isn’t too long.
In the meantime, fans can still see Jon Watts’ latest MCU release, Spider-Man: No Way Home, which is currently playing in theaters.
