Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is one of Marvel’s most highly-anticipated projects of 2022. So it’s no surprise that the fan theories are running wild ahead of its May 6th release. However, one in particular seems to be gaining some traction on Reddit. The theory comes from one user who bases their theory on Doctor Strange’s “off” behavior in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
In the theory, it explains that Strange is likely dealing with “post-Blip depression.” Strange was one of the trillions snapped away by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. As a result, he missed out on five years of his life passing by in what, for him, seemed like a matter of seconds. While the Blip only felt like a few seconds to Strange, the people closest to him had to move on with their lives over the next five years.
This includes the love of his life, Christine. In the preview for Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, we see Strange as a guest at a wedding in which Christine is the bride. This means that she likely moved on from Strange over the course of the Blip, leaving Strange to return to find the love of his life with someone else. Thus, explaining why Dr. Strange seems so “off” in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
This is likely the reason that Strange will be traveling through the multiverse in his upcoming sequel. He is attempting to change a timeline involving Christine, creating a fracture in the multiverse as a result. Check out the full theory for yourself below:

It’s certainly a plausible theory, however, the official plot of the film is still unknown. All that fans have to go off of is the trailer that was initially released as a post-credit scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home. More plot details are sure to come to light as more trailers surface ahead of May.
Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness hits theaters on May 6, 2022.
