Although it remained unconfirmed for quite some time, the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home finally revealed the return of both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The two actors each played Peter Parker aka Spider-Man in separate film continuities, and they were brought together with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker for No Way Home. It was a surprising team-up that no one thought would ever happen. Now it seems the impossible continues to be possible – as the writers for Spider-Man: No Way Home have teased that there will be more movies featuring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
This was revealed when writers Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna spoke with Variety. It was McKenna who first stated he’d “love to see more of their journey.”
He even revealed that a post-credits scene featuring the actors was once suggested, and then the two writers discussed what they’d like to see the characters do next.
“I would hope so! I would love to see more of their journey. We even talked about, ‘Oh, we could do a [post-credits] tag with this one! We could do a tag with that one!’”
Sommers then mentioned how they could jokingly have their own Scooby-Doo type TV series.
“‘Can we do a TV show with the two of them traveling around in a van solving mysteries?’”
Finally, Chris McKenna stated:
“Like, ‘No, you weren’t supposed to say that. We are doing Tobey and Andrew in a van going from town to town!”
It’s nice to see the writers carry their sense of humor wherever they go. It’s definitely that kind of charisma that really made the scripts for these new Spider-Man films flourish. Of course, it’s also interesting that they too seem to love these characters and would love to see their stories continue. With fans also wanting the same, it seems more than likely we haven’t seen the last of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. With that said, only time will tell for sure.
