Although Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the biggest movies of the year, and one of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe films in ages, it still isn’t perfect. In fact, there are quite a few plot holes noticeable given that the film manipulates the Multiverse through magic and science-fiction. Now the film’s writers, Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, have opened up to address some of these plot holes found in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The two writers recently sat down with Variety to discuss the massive blockbuster. With so many intricate details and characters involved, it’s easy to get lost in the conversations. Nevertheless, Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna discussed the plot holes that will have formed as a result of the film’s ending. In particular, when Peter Parker wished his identity away. Now the writers state that it’s simply up to the next film to answer.
Here’s what they specifically explained:
“We decided, let’s try to do it in the most satisfying way and just focus on the emotion of it,” Sommers stated. “And then if people have questions about some of those details that didn’t get answered here, we’ll answer them hopefully in another movie somewhere down the line.
McKenna also added that certain details were left out for simplicity:
“Obviously, some sort of magical redaction has occurred,” the writer added. “At the end of all this, we didn’t want a lot of people trying to do magical math in their head.”
“You want to have that doughnut scene be him making the last piece of the sacrifice,” McKenna continued. “I could tell them everything. I can try to get my friends back. But I’d be going right back to the place of endangering my loved ones by bringing them into my life. And I can’t have that.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home, regardless of certain plot holes, had a very crazy ending. It will undoubtedly allow for the character to be expanded on in any number of directions, and it’ll be interesting to see where such films take Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. And, along the way, hopefully they’ll be able to answer some of these questions.
The newly released Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently playing in theaters.
