The Sony Spider-Verse could be gearing up to get very interesting. After the monstrous success that has been Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans are clamoring to know what Sony has in store next for everyone’s favorite webslinger. Given how No Way Home came to a close, with everyone in the world forgetting who Peter Parker is, including those who love him the most, it leaves the character in a very interesting position moving forward.
Well, it sounds like a new love interest could be making its way into the fold. According to a report from GFR, Sony is eyeing The Queen’s Gambit and The New Mutants star Anya Taylor-Joy for the role of a live-action Felicia Hardy aka The Black Cat. Trusted Reddit leaker, @MyTimeToShineH, has since corroborated the report, suggesting there’s some truth to it. And that appears to only be the beginning of Sony’s plans.
The leaker also confirmed rumors that Sony is interested in bringing back Emma Stone to play a live-action Spider-Gwen. Stone played Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man films alongside Andrew Garfield several years ago. However, her character died after falling from a clock tower and suffering a fatal blow to the head.
Regardless, it seems that Stone could come back to play a variant of Stacy, this time picking up the Spider-Gwen mantel. The only issue would be that Spider-Gwen is actually a teenager in the comic books, and Stone is currently 33-years-old – and likely won’t be too believable as a youth character. It will be pretty interesting to see what Sony ultimately decides to do with the Marvel castings, and if these rumors end up coming to fruition. One thing is for certain though, the future of Spider-Man is looking very bright indeed.
Spider-Man No Way Home is currently playing in theaters everywhere.
