When it comes to underrated comic book movies, it is hard not to put Keanu Reeves’ Constantine at the top of that list. While the film takes a lot of liberties with the comic property, fans have grown quite fond of the movie in hindsight and it has become a cult classic. And, as Reeves continue to redefine the action genre and endlessly rejuvenate his career, it looks like The Matrix star wants to play Constantine again.
While appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to promote The Matrix Resurrections, Colbert mentioned how Keanu has recently been able to bring back some of his iconic roles like Neo and Ted. He then asked the actor if there was any other role he’d love to dive back into from the past. With almost no hesitation, Reeves said John Constantine. Colbert and the audience applauded this and the late night host even pitched for himself to be a reluctant demon in the film.
It is then that we find out that Keanu is quite serious about this and his been trying to make this happen for years. We’ve heard Reeves mention going back to the role a few times in interviews, but to know that he is actively trying to make it happen is a big revelation.
With the 4th Matrix movie set to release this week, John Wick 4 on the horizon, and Keanu’s star shining brighter than ever, it may be time for WB to start listening to the actor and look into bringing back this franchise and let Reeves have another crack at the foul mouthed sorcerer of DC.
So, if he is able to jump back into the khaki trench coat and the heavy smoking, is it a soft reboot or a sequel? Could we explore this world further or we they take it in a new direction? Whatever happens, fans are just as excited as Keanu Reeves to see the actor back in the role.
