The release of Spider-Man: No Way Home also marked the return of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man, a character we previously last saw in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. For awhile it seemed like fans would never see the character’s story continued, but No Way Home proved otherwise. Now it appears that Sony is reportedly planning to bring back the character after he was so positively received in the new MCU film.
This news comes from insider Daniel Richtman, who has received claims from multiple sources on the matter. These sources, including Twitter user @MyTimeToShineHello, have all indicated that Andrew Garfield “might come back” as well as that the actor “could actually come back for MULTIPLE projects.”
With the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ongoing focus on the Multiverse, this isn’t much of a surprise. The concept allowed them to bring back not only Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man for No Way Home, but also Tobey Maguire’s take on the character. As such, it seems as though there are no shortage of possibilities for any of the characters moving forward. We could see The Amazing Spider-Man 3, another crossover with the MCU, or even a crossover with Sony’s other Spider-Man characters like the alien symbiote Venom. After his redemption in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it definitely looks like Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man will be here to stay.
While none of this is officially confirmed, of course, the release of No Way Home proved that anything can happen. We’re already going to be seeing more of the Multiverse in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As such, it doesn’t seem outside the realm of possibility that we could see the return of Andrew Garfield as soon as that film. We’ll just have to keep our eyes open and pay attention. Fans can thus stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on the matter as we have them.
Meanwhile, fans can still see Spider-Man: No Way Home. The new MCU film is currently playing in theaters.
