Earlier today, the post-credits scene for Spider-Man: No Way Home managed to find its way online in the form of the leaked trailer for next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. However, as is the case with most Marvel films, Spider-Man: No Way Home also contained a mid-credits scene. Which, much like this film’s predecessor, sets up the franchise’s future in a big way. It also contains something else after all of the credits roll.
Beware – there are spoilers below!
Those of you who saw Venom: Let there be Carnage will remember that the post-credits scene of that film saw Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and his symbiotic pal being transported to the Marvel Cinematic Universe whilst hiding out in Mexico. It was strongly implied that this would lead to the character finally getting a chance to throw down with Tom Holland’s titular hero.
The mid-credits scene from Spider-Man: No Way Home seems to pick up not long after this scene, with Hardy’s Eddie Brock still in Mexico asking a local bartender many questions about his new surroundings. In particular, he makes reference to Tony Stark, The Hulk, and the purple alien who likes stones. It’s then that he makes the drunken decision to head to New York to have a talk with Spider-Man, before being removed from this universe as a result of Doctor Strange’s actions in the film itself.
However, whilst it seems like both this and the Venom: Let there be Carnage scenes ultimately went nowhere, think again. It’s revealed that after Eddie disappears again, that not all of his symbiote went with him. There’s a part of Venom left behind on the bar that eventually bursts to life.
It’s interesting to think how this will continue on in any future films. Will the symbiote find its way to Peter Parker now, so we can see him in the symbiote suit? Or will Venom try to reconnect with Eddie, who could be a very different person in the MCU? It’s definitely a shame that we didn’t get to see Spider-Man and Venom go toe-to-toe in this film, but this definitely does seem to hint that a fight is in the cards.
The second post-credits scene is not a scene – but it is a trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is in theaters now.
