Although the 2017 film Jigsaw revived the Saw franchise, the series went into a different direction in 2021. We received Spiral: From the Book of Saw, a spin-off of sorts and sequel to the original Saw films. As you can imagine, the film received mixed responses as a result. While some were excited for a fresh take on the franchise, others were disappointed about missing elements like Billy the Puppet or John Kramer aka Jigsaw. Well, now Spiral co-writer Josh Stolberg has teased that Jigsaw will make a comeback in the sequel.
This was revealed on Twitter, where he explained that the script for the sequel is in the polishing stages. While that’s already exciting news for those who were hoping the new film would be on the fast-track, he then dropped another exciting tease for fans.
Here’s what he said:
“Back with my horror family, polishing up the next @Saw script. I could tell you There will be , but you know that already. What I can promise you is that this is gonna make John Kramer fans very happy!!!”

It became clear with the release of Spiral: From the Book of Saw that the Saw film franchise was expanding. While it seemed like two divergent paths were created, one with the new story started in Spiral and the previous one from Jigsaw, it looks like the two are now going in the same direction. This should be exciting news for fans of both the new storylines established in Spiral: From the Book of Saw and those from the original Saw film series. Especially if it means we’ll somehow see the return of John Kramer.
It’s unknown beyond that, however, what direction the new film could go in. Past sequels have often worked as midquels and prequels, attempting to fill in the gaps from one twist or sequel to the next. It’s possible that Spiral: From the Book of Saw will do the same. Now with two different storylines to follow, however, it should make much more room to explore.
