One of the most popular villains in Marvel canon is none other than Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin. The character has been a massive antagonist for superhero characters like Daredevil and Spider-Man, and his appearances in the comics have been incredibly popular. In fact, his appearances have been so popular that the character has since been adapted for the animated series Spider-Man, the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the live-action Netflix series Daredevil. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. But now it looks like the comics will push the character even further forward – with Wilson Fisk officially running for United States President.
As noted by ComicBook, the first issue of the Devil’s Reign miniseries actually reveals that Wilson Fisk has already been elected Mayor of New York City. While that’s an impressive status for a villain like Fisk to acquire, it seems that becoming President of the United States is the next major goal of Wilson Fisk.
Interestingly, his position for Mayor of New York City has actually been challenged by none other than Tony Stark, aka Iron Man. It looks like things are definitely going to be interesting throughout the rest of this comic miniseries.
With talk of Wilson Fisk making a new live-action appearance in Hawkeye, it’s interesting to see the character receive so much attention in the comic book side of things as well. He’s always been a great villain for Marvel, so placing him in a position so high in the government should really make for some great storytelling.
As for the entire setup of Devil’s Reign #2…
“Wilson Fisk has set the Marvel Universe on a dangerous and violent path, hoping to remake it in his own image. Systematically leveraging the power of his office against the heroes of the Marvel Universe, Fisk takes his most dangerous and craven step yet… The THUNDERBOLTS are reporting for duty!
ALSO IN THIS ISSUE: Hizzoner isn’t the only one with ambitions-the forces he’s marshaled do as well. You know what they say about honor among thieves…”
The Devil’s Reign crossover event was written by Chip Zdarsky with art by Marco Checchetto. The second issue of the six issue miniseries will be released on December 29, 2021.
