Actor Kane Hodder, perhaps best known for having played Jason Voorhees more than any other actor, will now be taking on the role of Leatherface. He previously did stunt work for the character in Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III decades ago, but now he’ll be providing motion capture for the character in the upcoming video game The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Interestingly, this game comes from the same developers as Friday the 13th: The Game – where Kane Hodder provided motion capture for Jason Voorhees. As such, fans know they’re in good hands with Kane Hodder providing the animations for Leatherface in this particular game.
This news comes via Fangoria, where they were able to interview Kane Hodder about his work on the game. While the actor wasn’t able to reveal much, he did describe some of the effort he took when playing the character. It turns out that he was close friends with Gunnar Hansen, the actor who played Leatherface in the original The Texas Chain Saw Massacre film, and truly wanted to honor his performance. This included going so far as to wear cowboy boots while doing the motion capture. Obviously, Hodder didn’t need to wear such boots – but chose to because Hansen did while he shot the original film. It’s this kind of enthusiasm and attention to detail that promises a really great game for fans of the franchise.
Here’s the video where you can see more of Kane Hodder discussing the process behind the game:
