In a surprising announcement, the first trailer for Star Wars: Eclipse has been released. The new game is set during the High Republic era, a time period that has yet to be explored in the feature films. This means the game is set quite some time before The Phantom Menace and the rest of the prequel trilogy.
It should also be stated that this is one of the first Star Wars games to be developed outside of EA. While they were previously the exclusive developer of Star Wars titles, Disney has since opened up the IP to other developers. As such, Star Wars: Eclipse is being created by Quantic Dream.
And, as you can see in the trailer below, they’ve done a stunning job with expanding the Star Wars universe like we’ve never seen it before. While there are some familiar faces and settings, such as Jedi Master Yoda and the planet Coruscant, there are plenty of new locations and species as well.
As for how the game has been officially described thus far:
“Set during the High Republic era, Star Wars Eclipse™ is an intricately branching action-adventure game that can be experienced in many ways, and puts the destinies of multiple playable characters in your hands, created in collaboration between Quantic Dream and Lucasfilm Games.”
With the game being in “early development,” it’s unknown how soon we’ll have more information about the project. But if this new cinematic trailer is anything to go by, Star Wars: Eclipse will certainly be a game worth looking out for. After so many EA-centric Star Wars titles, and none set during the High Republic, it’ll be interesting to see what this project has to offer for the galaxy far, far away. As such, fans can stay tuned to ScreenGeek for more updates on the highly anticipated video game as we have them.
