Fans were surprised with Sonic the Hedgehog after the film was released in early 2020. After the movie had a controversial first teaser, the studio surprised fans by redesigning Sonic once again to be closer to his video game counterpart. As a result, fans ended up loving the film, and a sequel was greenlit soon after. Now we have our first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 – and it definitely looks like it’ll be delivering even more of what fans loved from the first film.
After all, while the first film ultimately did respect the designs of Sonic from the video games – there was still plenty of lore to explore. It was teased that Jim Carrey’s character Dr. Robotnik would become even more like the version fans are used to from the games, and we even got a glimpse at the beloved character Tails. Now we should be getting even more of these characters as well as Knuckles the Echidna.
You can see it all for yourself in the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer down below:
Of course, fans will still have quite a few months to wait for the film to be released. But now that we have this first look at the film, which was impressively shot during the pandemic, it’s nice to have some reassurance that there will be a product made in the same quality as its predecessor. Perhaps it’s safe to say that Paramount Pictures has successfully created a winning video game-inspired film franchise with Sonic.
Jeff Fowler directed the film which was written by Pat Casey, Josh Miller, and John Whittington.
The film will once again star Ben Schwartz as the titular Sonic the Hedgehog, with Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails and Idris Elba as Knuckles. Jim Carrey will reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik while James Marsden will also return.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently scheduled for a release date on April 8, 2022.
