When it comes to Kevin Feige and letting fans in on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he is the master of leading us along with the carrot of possibilities, but never actually lets us get a bite until the projects release. He is as tight lipped as they come, never letting even the most expert of interviewers trip him up into letting something slip. He is an expert at positive yet aloof answers. Yet, over the last few days, Feige has been overly generous, at least for his usual self, and now we can explore this MCU news even further.
Feige had recently let the world know that when Daredevil comes into the MCU, Charlie Cox will be the one to don the horns once again. And, while the debate over whether the Netflix series and TV shows before Disney Plus are canon or not rages on at a fever pitch amongst fans, Kevin’s latest comments should help point fans in one direction.
In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant, Feige was asked about the other characters from the Netflix series and whether we’ll see them in the MCU or not. Here is what he had to say:
“I always say that whenever a character comes back into the Marvel sandbox, it becomes another tool in the storytelling ability of the MCU. As I said before, the good news is, all will be revealed when people actually finally watch.”
Now, when using context clues, the ‘comes back into the Marvel sandbox’ line would suggest that the Netflix series are not considered canon. Even though those series and the ABC shows did reference the MCU on the regular, it was always a one sided affair. But, even if they are not canon, the fans loved Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones and Mike Colter’s Luke Cage. So, whether they lean on their previous stories or create a whole new backstory for the MCU, bringing back these actors would be ideal in these roles.
Kevin Feige is seemingly back to his ‘wait and see’ ways, but he is still being more open than usual. The MCU has a big six months ahead of itself with Hawkeye, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange into the Multiverse of Madness amongst others exploding their universe into a whole new stratosphere of adversity. And Feige seems even more excited about it than ever before. So much so that he may just let a little more news slip than per usual.
