The next step forward for the Spider-Man film franchise is upon us. The upcoming film, titled Spider-Man: No Way Home, is set to feature the collision of multiple different Spider-Man continuities. This includes characters from Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man trilogy and the Amazing Spider-Man duology. Of course, most of the returning characters from these films appear to be villains. This includes Doc Ock, Green Goblin, and Electro among others. But it remains to be seen if Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield, the actors who’ve previously played Spider-Man in these respective continuities, will be returning as well. Now a new piece of art appears to include a look at Tobey Maguire in battle during the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
As you can see below, via Indonesian bank Bank Mandiri’s Instagram account, they released a No Way Home tie-in image which apparently includes the Tobey Maguire variant of Spider-Man. It definitely looks just like the version of the character that fans have become familiar with over the decades – and he’s clearly doing battle with No Way Home villain Electro.
Check it out below:
While this does further lend to the theory that at least Tobey Maguire will appear in the film, it doesn’t quite confirm it. Despite numerous alleged leaks and rumors, there has been nothing concrete revealed about Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield being a part of No Way Home, even if this art is a good argument as to why Maguire would be. But ultimately, the artist behind this promo was merely granted permission from Marvel to do the artwork – it doesn’t mean it’s a genuine set piece from the film. As such, we might just have to keep waiting for the theatrical release to know for sure.
The upcoming MCU film was directed by Jon Watts from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, and Hannibal Buress are all attached to appear.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2021.
