One of the most exciting Marvel projects currently in development is Ant-Man 3, officially titled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. As confirmed in a previous Ant-Man 3 leak, one of many reasons so many fans are excited for the film is that it will feature an appearance from Kang the Conqueror. Now, Kang is best known for being one of Marvel’s most powerful villains. The fact that we’ll be seeing the character throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe is obviously one of the best things the current phases have going for them. But it looks like we should still expect some familiar trends to remain no matter how much the films change. In particular, it looks like Ant-Man 3 will be following a rather popular Marvel trend.
This was revealed in the same image that recently teased the appearance of Kang the Conqueror. As fans who’ve already seen the image know, it reveals a glimpse at Ant-Man’s very own mask, albeit severely damaged. While the biggest takeaway is that Kang the Conqueror’s reflection is visible on the mask, that’s not the only takeaway. In fact, as pointed out by The Direct, the damaged mask proves that Ant-Man 3 will be following a similar trend to past MCU threequels.
In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark’s helmet becomes damaged with a large crack. In Captain America: Civil War, the third Captain America film, Steve Rogers gives up his shield. In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor loses his hammer Mjolnir to Hela who destroys it. Furthermore, it’s become obvious that the upcoming film Spider-Man: No Way Home will also follow this trend after Peter Parker’s nanotech is stolen by Doc Ock. Now, assuming that Ant-Man’s mask really is damaged like the leaked art suggests, then it seems safe to say Ant-Man 3 is also continuing this trend.

Of course, we don’t know much else about the upcoming film to assume how this will ultimately turn out for Ant-Man by the end. But according to the MCU formula, threequels will always see their respective superheroes have a part of their gear damaged, stolen, or given up.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is being directed by Peyton Reed from a screenplay written by Jeff Loveness.
The confirmed cast for the film includes Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kathryn Newton, and Jonathan Majors.
Audiences will be able to see Ant-Man 3 on July 28, 2023.
