Although Disney Plus has been known for distributing shows inspired by both Marvel and Star Wars, they’ve released a few projects based on other brands as well. In fact, they released a new series titled Turner & Hooch that followed the classic 1989 film of the same name. Unfortunately, for fans of the new series, it’s been revealed that Turner & Hooch has now been cancelled by the streaming service following its first season.
Apparently the series, which featured actor Josh Peck as Detective Scott Turner, just didn’t do well enough for the streaming platform to get renewed. However, as noted with the announcement via ComicBook, they previously spoke with actor Reginald VelJohnson a few months ago. While the actor seemed to tease back then that the series wouldn’t be picked up, he did imply that another network could potentially continue the story.
As he stated:
“Well, as far as I know, they’re trying to sell it to another network or something like that. That’s what I heard,” VelJohnson noted. “But as of now, it’s not going to be picked up, I don’t think. It was fun to do. And working with the actors was great fun and I hope so, whatever they decided to do I’m with it. It’s okay. I enjoy doing the sequel and, hopefully, we’ll have some time to do it again. But if not, I was glad for the experience.”
While Disney Plus has produced and released more than a few hits, from The Mandalorian to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it looks like Turner & Hooch just wasn’t meant to move past its first season. But for fans of the initial twelve episodes of the first season of Turner & Hooch, the aforementioned first season of the series is currently still streaming on Disney Plus. So while it may be cancelled, it seems just as likely that this short-lived Turner & Hooch series will remain as fondly remembered as the 1989 film which spawned it.
In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see if another network could somehow pick up the series for a continuation.
